About the USS Wainwright (CG-28)

The USS Wainwright (CG-28) was a guided missile cruiser commissioned by the United States Navy in 1966 and served for more than three decades before being decommissioned in 1993.

The vessel participated in numerous Cold War operations and represented an important component of American naval defense during a period of significant geopolitical tension. Named in honor of the distinguished Wainwright naval family, the ship became known for its advanced missile capabilities and long service record.
